APRIL 2008 During April 2008 the doors opened unexpectedly for me to minister in the country of Sudan. I had one week to prepare financially and to pack. This was my last week of classes, finals and I had a full weekend of ministry already scheduled out of town. Ephesians 2 says “But God…..” and that is what happened. He enabled me to do it all and not be physically tired when I left on a bus that would take 24 hours to reach our destination. I traveled through Uganda into Sudan on roads that are not passable but I traveled them anyway. The security throughout these countries are very strict and many times I saw soldiers marching through the bush or in one of there many camps along the road. At one point, the land cruiser I had hired to complete the last leg of the journey, had to wait at a check point for over 35 minutes while soldiers removed LAND MINES up ahead on the road we would soon travel over. The last leg of the trip to Sudan was only 100 miles but took us 6 ½ hours because of the road conditions. But the effort was worth it! I had the privilege of ministering to over 1000 children, 2 different days, ages 4 – 20, plus I assisted in a Women’s conference, speaking and teaching for 2 days. I stayed in a very nice MUD HUT with a GRASS ROOF (no electricity) and had the opportunity to bathe every night in a outside bath house under the light of the moon. I felt as if I had returned to my childhood days when I lived in the country as a small girl. This is their everyday life and I was right at home, although it may be unusual for most modern Westerners. Up until this trip to Sudan, I had never spent much time or knew much about Muslim people. But I am thanking God for their kindness shown toward me. My traveling companion and me were befriended by some very nice Muslims, some who believe in Jesus and some who did not. If it had not been for their kindness, we would have been in some very unsafe situations several different times during this trip. AGAIN, “but God…” who miraculously provided us refuge from severe weather, shelter in the night, understanding of our environment, food and a tour of the city of Juba, Sudan at NO COST TO US. Even on the grounds of one place we stayed in Juba, there was a small 6 x 6 hut in the corner with a Kenyan refugee Pastor who actually knew other friends of mine in Kenya. I was also able to give advice, teach a few small ideas and give material to a young man who was starting a new church in Juba. (I had wondered why I had brought these particular ministry materials…. NOW I KNEW WHY!) Who would have thought that so many hundreds of miles away from anything I knew, God would allow me to continue to see HIS MIGHTY HAND even in the strange places I would stay outside of the intended ministry trip? There is so much more I could tell you…like the long grueling hours on the return trip, the accident of the vehicle I was in, the constant breakdown of the land cruiser afterwards that resulted in a 17 hour road trip instead of 7 hours, a ride in the night on top of Bananas, pineapples and sugar cane on a broken down seat with rain pouring in with people I didn’t know, stranded in the middle of the night in Uganda with NO MONEY and the ATM’s wouldn’t work!!!!! … I could go on and on but ONE thing I know….. Souls were saved! Lives were changed! God opened another door in another country and they are crying for us to return ASAP. It is because of YOU and YOUR gifts every month that countless thousands of people’s lives are being changed when I am able to reach out to the lost across this world. Oh, how much I appreciate your sacrificial prayers and gifts! Thank you but now let us thank GOD. He did it AGAIN!!!! There is a song I have sung at different times entitled, “Win the Lost at Any Cost”. There is a COST, sometimes it could be our life. But God watched over me while I was in unsafe places. Another missionary friend of mine from Eldoret, Kenya was in another part of Sudan/ Uganda at the same time I was gone and was attacked by rebel forces unexpectedly while traveling down a road. The other people in the vehicle were critically wounded but his life was spared. He did undergo surgery because one of the two bullets shot in his back had lodged in one of his ribs. I am glad to say, he is recovering now, back in Eldoret with an anxious heart to return to the work at hand, saving souls! “Win the Lost at any Cost”. Please continue to remember us here as we hold the banner high! I will be traveling to Zambia from May 5 – 20 to teach and train many churches, Pastors and leaders about Children’s ministry. I do not know everywhere I will go in Zambia but I do know the schedule will be very busy so your prayers are needed. June 1 – 6 I will be going into Masai Land in the tip of Kenya near Mombosa. Most of these individuals live in the “bush”, drink cow’s blood and have little communication with any outside people. We will be living with them as they live and I will attempt to minister to them with basic simple children’s ministry skills. Another missionary friend of mine here in Eldoret, who is well known to this backward tribal area will be my guide. The Thompsons, Moria and Will, are allowing me to accompany them into this new place. I desire your prayers for this trip that God will help me not to offend but open their eyes to His love. This is trip I have been waiting for since I first came to Kenya in 2005. His timing is perfect! |
